Shedeur Sanders, the son of NFL legend Deion Sanders, is making a name for himself in the NFL. According to a report from ESPN, Sanders is expected to replace Drake Maye in the Pro Bowl. This achievement would make Sanders the first Pro Bowl appearance for the rookie quarterback, surpassing his father's record. Deion Sanders, drafted in 1989, had to wait until 1991 to earn his first Pro Bowl invitation.
The Browns announced that Shedeur Sanders would start in place of Maye, who was selected to the Pro Bowl as a Carolina Panther but was later named to the Super Bowl team. Sanders finished the 2022 regular season with an impressive seven touchdown passes and a disappointing ten interceptions.
The younger Sanders demonstrated his potential throughout the season. In his first career start, he threw for 275 yards and a touchdown against the Baltimore Ravens. Sanders also led the Browns to an upset victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 16, passing for 300 yards and two touchdowns.
While Sanders' interception total was a concern for some, his ability to make plays in the clutch and lead the Browns to wins earned him the starting job. The Pro Bowl recognition serves as a testament to his progress and hard work.
The Pro Bowl selection adds to the growing list of accolades for Sanders. He was named the AAC Offensive Player of the Year and the Manning Award Quarterback of the Year during his college days at Jackson State. Sanders also won the Heisman Trophy, becoming the first Black quarterback to receive the prestigious award.
The Sanders family has a rich football history. Deion Sanders, a former cornerback and return specialist, was a nine-time Pro Bowler and a two-time Super Bowl champion. His son, Shedeur, is following in his father's footsteps and making a name for himself in the NFL.
