What's New in Travel
Travelers are always on the lookout for ways to make their journeys smoother and more enjoyable. Recently, several developments have caught our attention, from the opening of a new airport terminal to the rise of zero-proof cocktails in stylish bars.
Hollywood Burbank Airport's New Terminal
About an hour's drive north of LAX, Hollywood Burbank Airport has long sold itself on what larger Southern California airports struggle to provide: a fast trip from curb to gate. This October, the airport is scheduled to open a 355,000-square-foot, 14-gate replacement terminal in the northeast quadrant of the airfield. The nearly $1.3 billion project, named Elevate BUR, is meant to fix safety, accessibility, and passenger-flow problems without changing the airport's basic operating proposition.
"The thing we kept hearing from everybody about why they use this airport is it's so convenient," Patrick Lammerding, deputy executive director of operations, security, and safety management systems at Hollywood Burbank Airport, tells Matador. "That's the word that keeps coming up."
Lost and Found
If you've ever realized halfway through your flight that your sunglasses are in the back of the car that drove you to the airport, you're not alone. Uber recently released its 10th annual Lost and Found Index, and with it, announced an improved way to help reunite owners and their items. Phones topped the list of most-forgotten items, with more than a million reported left behind.
- Phones: 1,000,000+ reported left behind
- Wallets: 500,000+ reported left behind
- Luggage: 200,000+ reported left behind
- Keys: 150,000+ reported left behind
- Headphones: 100,000+ reported left behind
